Bleeding time (BT) is a medical test that measures the time it takes for a small, standardized skin incision to stop bleeding. It is used to assess the primary hemostasis, which involves the initial steps of blood clot formation and the ability of blood vessels to constrict and stop bleeding when injured. Bleeding time is an older and less commonly used test, as more specific and reliable coagulation tests, such as the prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), have largely replaced it.
